WORKSHOPS
Modern Age Aviation Leadership: Integrity and Responsibility
(Under Development)
Due for release July 2025
A half-day, face-to-face training workshop.
As a former operational aviation business owner, employee, and now specialist aviation counsellor, Angela understands that most men bring a gentle, protective and nurturing quality to the workplace. With more women entering the aviation industry, some managers and leaders, both male and female, may simply need additional awareness and support to help women thrive in their careers. Angela has been working in collaboration with the Working Women’s Centre in Adelaide, SA, a respected advocacy organisation, to develop an aviation-specific Modern Age Aviation Leadership Workshop to support the industry.
Grounded in research, this workshop draws on the hard work and expertise of the Working Women’s Centre, as well as insights from the recent General Aviation Culture and Wellbeing Survey, current gender equity research, and lived experience case studies. It focuses on building gender equality and safety across aviation workplaces, combining best practice with practical, real-world insights.
By addressing the root causes of workplace challenges in aviation, the workshop equips leaders with the skills to mitigate and manage potential psychosocial risks, identify early warning signs, respond appropriately, meet their legal obligations (under State and Territory legislation), and help create safer, more supportive environments.
The aim is to break down outdated ideas about 'gender-dominated' industries (whether male-dominated or female-dominated) by challenging 'territorial behaviours' and focusing on what truly matters: ability, attitude, and discipline. Success is earned through commitment and contribution, and it has nothing to do with gender or quotas. Our goal is to create modern workplaces where everyone can thrive equally.
The workshop seeks to educate, uphold professional standards, and drive lasting cultural change - ultimately attracting and retaining more women in the aviation industry.
Topics addressed in this workshop include
-
Understanding Behaviours and Impacts
We’ll talk about workplace discrimination, exclusion, bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment. Specifically, we’ll explore social factors such as workplace relationships and interactions, why they matter, and how poor management often impacts women, their careers, and financial security. -
Knowing Your Responsibilities
We'll cover your role as a leader or team member, including legal duties like the Positive Duty to create a safe and respectful workplace. -
Looking at the Bigger Picture
We'll explore how workplace culture, power dynamics, and gender inequality can sometimes set the scene – and how small changes can make a real difference. -
Handling Challenges and Resistance
We'll discuss common challenges leaders face, how to respond to resistance, and share practical ways to lead confidently and respectfully. -
Men Working in Female-Dominated Industries (Same, Same)
We'll shift away from the perception of a ‘male-dominated’ industry, let go of the territorial narrative, and return to simply being decent, respectful people (men and women) - allowing everyone to thrive equally in the workplace and in their chosen careers. -
Alcohol in Aviation – It’s a Big Problem
Understanding your responsibilities as an organisation and as management to manage risks often encountered during boozy work functions. -
Model Behavior
We’ll share examples of men who model positive and respectful behaviour, setting an example for others and contributing to a more positive work environment for everyone. -
Stepping Up and Calling Out
We’ll discuss how, when men (and women) call out inappropriate behaviours, they provide vital support. Shockingly, calling out these behaviours can sometimes lead to repercussions from management who are not aligned. -
Some Operators Actively Choose Not to Employ Women in Operational Roles
You heard it. We'll talk about it. -
Onboarding Women (Same, Same)
We'll give examples where employing based on ability, attitude, and discipline - is not gender-specific. No difference. -
Simple Strategies for Action
You'll learn easy, practical ways to support others, step in early when needed, and handle a situation if someone comes to you for help.
